Just saw the first implementation of safe server shutdown. I was so happy when I saw the shutdown server message in the client. It's starting to feel more like a working mmo every day :)

Does anyone remember the population of TSO before it was shutdown? Namely the most populous city, Alphaville (Not EA Land). What did it have? I'm assuming if all 1,680 ish members on this Forum join, it's going to be pretty damn packed. This is of course assuming 20 people on a skill lot, that means about 80 skill lots can be jam packed which would be pretty huge.

The number of people registered on the forum is not really a reliable source concerning the true number of people actually registered, we are probably around something like 1400 but yeah I think a population superior to 1000 on a server is clearly not bad.

I'd be nice to have it packed, but even, I know of few fan-sites that, if news is spread to, would probably help promote FreeSO.

I'm anticipating a jump in users once word gets out. Hopefully the server will scale well enough to handle it.

Initially scaling might be expensive, but as I start putting my planned optimisations in place it should be possible to scale down. We'll have a kind of early warning before any extreme game server load - specifically that the blog will get hammered before the game is, and new users won't immediately be able to run extra 2400 object lots (since they need to earn that). It's just a matter of careful observation.

I'm trying to get the game server running on my linux machine to see how it co-operates, but it seems mono doesn't want to co-operate and fails to load its own variation of system.drawing.image (this problem has never occurred for anyone else), which is used to load the city terrain data. I may need to use a different bmp loader, or switch to a windows server.

AAAH I have to study for exams as well so a launch during xmas break would be ok for me. An xmas eve launch would be amazing!!

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there anything I need to do now to be ready for launch? Download, create an account?

You can always download the TSO client by installing the current build of the game. The final binaries for the public test will be out shortly before it opens.

Do I need windows or am I doing something wrong?

You currently need windows, unless you wish to manually obtain the game files without an installer.

Current build is from June 2016? Installer always download that build on my computer.

I'm not sure if @xXJDrocks450Xx's installer is correctly downloading builds using the new project name correctly, and unfortunately I can't fix it myself right now. (source access and time constraints)

Okay, we are getting a Windows computer on Black Friday. What are the minimum specs it needs to have?

4GB RAM, any dedicated GPU. Moderately high clock speed CPU, preferably dual core or higher. Things are a little unstable on integrated graphics for the time being. Really hardware just needs to be new, rather than fast.
