Good, private servers should not exist anyways, more player base for the global servers.
The assumption that folks would care more about being 'Admin' of their own server over 'winning the game' is faulty. A private server would have a smaller population. How are you (and the folks coming to your server) going to have thriving lots with a tiny population? Even is the server owner thinks it is a good trade off, the visitors to the server probably wont and will switch to the global server for the larger population.
The only people who are most likely to persist with private servers are (1) people who are too introverted to feel entirely comfortable on the global server and (2) People who want to engage in activities that would not be allowed on the global server. The first may opt to not play at all if the Global server is the only choice so you are not losing any of the global server population anyway. (And as one of those introverts, by the way, I've ALREADY heard (for years) that my interest and enjoyment in MMOs doesn't count unless I'm "willing" to be as social as the rest of you so no need to trouble yourselves making that claim again.) The second ... isn't wanted on the global server. So, again, the global server loses nothing.
Or am I misunderstanding what a private server would have to offer (other than a smaller population and less chance of being punished for something unseemly).
Why have private servers because that would reduce the population from the global servers, TSO was built on being an MMO and no private server access. I feel the global server should only be the option people are given and get rid of all private servers as it will ruin the population and defeat the purpose of the global server in the first place. People that complain about this should really (1) Not be playing TSO and (2) Scared to lose admin rights and be a normal player like the rest of the player base.
Global server is the best option for everyone I don't understand why we should have this discussion in the first place, TSO is not built to be private server run it's a global game so everyone can communicate in a world... I'm glad the global server will replace all other servers.
Introvert or not, we are running an MMO server where you can still decide who you want to play with. This includes lots with ban lists, or even admit only lists. You have full control over who you wish to play with - even on job lots thanks to the ignore list. The only reason for a private server would be to provide an experience that our rules or management would forbid, like some kind of infinite money paradise or somewhere where the custom content requirements are less strict.
Sandbox mode is currently unimplemented, but will return as it is needed to make and test objects using Volcanic.
My entire point is that they *wont* reduce the population from global servers.
The private servers are essentially useless so them being an option has no negligible impact on the global server and real players. The extreme extrovert isn't going to log into a global server no matter what and those trying to get around the rules are disruptive. They'd log in, sure, and promptly get banned after being obnoxious.
Doesn't make a difference, TSO is built to be played on a global server not private servers, if you don't like people you could simply avoid them or ignore them simple as that. This discussion should not even be discussed dude you have no argument in the matter, sandbox private servers should only be there for testing not playable private servers plain and simple.
This thread doesn't provide much information anymore, since we're on the final big task. Turns out the MMO gameplay of TSO is pretty complex, whoda thought?
Closing, see new thread for more details.
