If I buy a laptop to play, what specs does it need to have?

This won't be demanding at all. You could easy play on a 1.5 ghz CPU with 512 MB of ram

If that is indeed accurate, that would easily include all of the recent low end laptops I've seen out on the market recently.

512MB ram is a problem, depends on what OS you are running

I know if you do a search on here eventually you will find a response from Rhys that isn't official by any means but gives some guide lines on what he expects you will need.

But also remember this game came out in 2002. Minus some things he added to make the game run on modern machines, optimizations, and whatever requirements the engine says we need to run it. It shouldn't be all the much higher then the old TSO.

That being said. Unless you are running it on an Windows XP. You need to take into account what the OS needs, and the game needs to run.

My guess is, 1.5gb ram (2.5gb for 64bit computers), 1.5ghz cpu (dual core or higher), any integrated video card should do (although honestly if you running with an integrated video card.. go buy yourself a new one even a $20 video card is most likely better then what you have), and 2gb of hard disk space.

Although thats just my guess. Could very well be higher, or lower. And since I know there was talks of eventually making this run on Linux, Macs, IOS, and possibly Android. These specifications could very well be lower. But honestly any computer basically build past 2010 will have 0 problems meeting any of these specifications.

Earliest supported intel chip is HD 3000. Anything before that will not work. Windows XP or before is not supported Apart from that shouldnt be too many issues.

    3000? OMG, i'm crying ;-; :(:(:(:(

Intel HD 3000, is basically integrated from 2011. A 6 year old chip. So my estimate of 2010 was off 1 year. Anything built after 2011 is good to go lol.

Would a HP stream work? It says intel HD graphic card 400?

If your game functions with the existing version of the game you might be in luck, though if you used DirectX mode prepare for possible out of memory crashes when hopping between lots.

Yes, HD graphics 4000 works perfectly.

    Hi,

Do not consider buying a new computer only for FreeSO. Mac release will be out soon or later, but there is others way to run it on a Mac.
If you have a Mac from 2009 or above, most of them can run FreeSO without any problem.

Oh so I will still be able to run it even without the mac release?

What are the specs of your Mac?

Should be able to run it just fine with a VM in the mean time. I have Parallels Desktop and Windows 10 running on my MacBook Pro... I bought this MacBook Pro this past September. It isn't at all a high end one either, 13-inch, dual core i5, 8GB RAM. And I'm able to do many tasks without issue. Including running EverQuest 2 while also having other things open...

From my understanding, typically, .NET applications (like those coded in C#) utilize more resources than something in say, C++. Someone else should be able to confirm?

I haven't loaded FreeSO up on the MacBook Pro, but I will later. It's been enjoying its nice nap in its bag... I haven't had to pull it out the last two weeks, I've been on my Windows machines recently.

It should be working too. If you experience any problem using PlayOnMac with FreeSO, please ask for help into the dedicated topic.

I won't recommend you this laptop.
It has a low resolution screen, slow hard drive. Even doing even surfing on the web will be a pain.
Good laptops won't be low-cost, it's always quite an investment.

If you can't get FreeSO running on Mac using the tutorial, just ask for help, we'll figure out.
