My Questions and Concerns (mainly about future of opensource, private servers)?

You may want to rethink this, as the bandwidth issues etc. from yesterday would make a decentralized setup less problematic. When i mean decentralize it could apply to just the api as well. Where there is a seperate website, login server, registration server etc... We all know that triplea...

[Pre?Release] Official Sims 1 for Linux aka (Mandrake Gaming Edition)

I can't seem to get it to run on anything past Mandriva 2006, The only difference between Mandriva 2006 and 2007+ that might be the issue was the change from XFree86 to Xorg display server. As the manual says it requires XFree86, it might be the issue. I'm going to try a few more things then...

My Questions and Concerns (mainly about future of opensource, private servers)?

YAY DRAGONS! Your right maybe a designated Sandbox mode, might be a way to do this, more of testing area (inside testing area, or at least a tutorial area), just a thought. Splitting it into several sub servers, does have its dissadvantages too namely a lot of empty servers and bored people...

My Questions and Concerns (mainly about future of opensource, private servers)?

If EA does turn its greedy $$$ eye on this, i wonder if there is a way to placate them without giving up full control. Maybe some dlc or something hahahah that would be ironic. I'm sure they'd love to make money on something without spending money on it or providing support. lol Anyone...

Multiple players on multiple computers using same internet connection.

What about sharing the same computer on the same subnet (albiet as long as you aren't running freeso twice, ->can you even?) Or will this be a case by case basis sort of thing. Is your cheat detection stuff flag any legit processes on the client computer? I sometimes use autohotkey or...

My Questions and Concerns (mainly about future of opensource, private servers)?

I was hoping that, but finding information about this project requires a lot of digging on these forums, so sorry if it was stated already; as we know there are people that like to tinker with their own pet projects, and then their are people that like the social aspect, keeping both groups...

    [OBSOLETE] FreeSO Update Utility

The main company (sometime ignored at least initially by their vindictive legal team) won't risk alienating this many loyal fans unless it looks like they are missing out on $$$$ probably, so depends on how successful this gets, double edged sword i suppose success will be.

    [OBSOLETE] FreeSO Update Utility

What is your plan if nearing the 6th thousand of people suddenly start requesting the same set of files from EA servers, do you think they will not notice, and what is the plan if they delete such files. The main thing that bothered me about the official installer is it deletes the install...

Multiple players on multiple computers using same internet connection.

This may become a problem for me too, as I will have a shared ip on same subnet. Just to prewarn you until my roommate replace the computer whose motherboard I accidently shorted (long story) may have to borrow one of mine to play. But regularly we are on the same subnet and ip not the same...

My Questions and Concerns (mainly about future of opensource, private servers)?

I have some questions for the development, answer when you have time I know you are busy with the launch on the 6th.... I'll highlight the main points so that developers can read past my details. 1) What is the future of the open source part of this project, I'm assuming there already is a...

[Pre?Release] Official Sims 1 for Linux aka (Mandrake Gaming Edition)

UPDATE: I was able to circumvent the copy protection of the cd (some weird varient of safedisk) and make an unprotected ISO, extract all the files, set up for a modern install, but. My main problem is getting this working with newever versions of linux. The newest one I tried that worked was...

[Pre?Release] Official Sims 1 for Linux aka (Mandrake Gaming Edition)

A long time ago in gaming history, the first attempt was made to make linux gaming friendly edition using Mandrake Linux (RPM based). A company by the name of Cedega formerly a winex flavor of the winehq project was utilized to make a semi sandbox sims 1 installation for the original game no...
