I have been a sims fan for YEARS. My first game in the series I played was the PS2 release of The Sims from edge of reality. That was an awesome game. Moved to Bustin Out and eventually bought The Sims Online and played that from 2004ish to the final dreadful day in 2008. The Sims 1 and 2 eras were amazing. We got fun original expansion packs, fun side spinoffs (like bustin out and urbz) and we got The Sims Online. What do we have now? We have The Sims 3, which was a very unoptimized buggy disaster with overpriced non original expansions, worlds that are poorly designed and so much content that is pay to use from the store. We got a non original console adaption (It removed the staple two player and story modes!) and now we have The Sims 4, which is just so badly designed and such a step back in terms of gameplay, originality and content. Sure, we had some surprises. MySims turned out to actually be pretty cool. But thats it.

Does anyone else feel the same about modern "The Sims Studio" developed games?

up until the sims 4 i got every expansion pack and main series game. I just gave up on modern releases and just played old games. Yknow like Sims 2 and now I can play the Sims online again :3

I love playing TS4 on PC, especially since I only really played The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 on consoles, only other TS2 PC game I played was The Sims Pet Stories.

yeah some of the stuff coming out in the new Sim games is pretty laughable... like sims 4 isn't even playable from first start-up. there's so much the player has to improve beforehand in order to get actual enjoyment from the gameplay. sims 4...quite fitting enough cause it took me like 4hrs just to set up the game properly with nice families and lots before actually playing for the first time. there's literally a household called Pancakes. wtf. everything was so shoddy and disappointing xD

sims 1 will always remain my favorite. I love everything about it. <3

What ARE you on about? :p

I was able to jump right into the game without any issues, Your PC might not be good enough for the game? idk.

no not what I meant. lol. my computer is able to run it fine.. but like all the default houses and households are fugly. I couldn't enjoy the game with everything that was pre-set.. I had to customize a lot before I could even begin to enjoy playing. get it? where as with all other sims .. everything was at least decent and you could get into game playing without feeling the needed to change everything first. I was not going to plant my family in a world where they were going to make friends with a family with the last name Pancakes. ugh.

lol why are you so serious :p Pancakes is a running gag, like with the Newbie family.

well, we all play differently :3 i like to fully immerse myself in my games, so little nuances like that tend to bother me and it's something I have to take care of before I can really start to engage in enjoyable game-time . and for sims 4 it took such a long time to tweak and work through all the silliness . it all just seemed kind of lazy .

I'll have to go with The Sims by a long mile :)
I also love the Get a Life mod in the PS2 version.
Missed out on Bustin' out unfortunately.
The Sims Online is of course my ultimate gaming related dream.

The Sims 4 is to date my ultimate disappointment when it comes to gaming.
Bar the building system the game is truly awful in all aspects.
Shallow, cartoonish and a truly idiotic attempt at making something funky.
It surely is the perfect game for today's Sims player base. Way to go EA.
It is pretty much disgusting to me. Thank God I didn't pay for the game.
I own everything from The Sims to the last expansion of TS3... not this time around...
(TS3 ran great for me with a huge amount of CC, mods and at very high graphics)

PS: Keep in mind that's just my personal and honest opinion.

I felt that the graphics and design in TS4 was just a step backwards.

From TS1 to TS2 then to TS3, the graphics advanced to where sims, models and worlds looked more realistic. Now, the models, graphics, sims and worlds look like they came right out of a comic book. Not to mention that the models literally look like they were designed by the same team who made the sims and models for The Urbz.

So many others made this observation too:

I mean, I am NOT dishing on Urbz. I LOVE the urbz, I frequently recommend it on my blog as one of the best console Simulation games ever. The urban environments, the atmosphere, music and the gameplay were fantastic and its a shame the proposed spinoff series for The Urbz never caught on. BUT, for being a game made in 2004 with ideas dead and buried, and when The Sims 4 from 2014 looks like it stole so many design elements (ESPECIALLY the new expansion which is basically The Urbz, lol), theres a problem.

I have been a fan sim when I discovered the sims 1 and been disapoiting by the sims 2 3 and 4... I feel like they think we are there only to make money for them...

I love The sims 1 but it's quite dificult sometimes. I took times to have clown confetis for exemple. And to become a start it's quite hard I find.

I thought that was so that people can come back in five years when The Sims 5 is released and not complain that the people don't look like people. The Sims 2's sims don't exactly look like people, either, and it's made worse since they tried to look realistic. With a moderately realistic art style, they can get away with more imperfections than they could with the realism we in the 2010s could muster.

Anyway, I don't hate newer Sims games, don't love them either. They have some cool features that would make TS1 even better, but the they also have some complete downgrades from the original.

If I ever learn how to make a game I'm making a god damn sims urbz tribute.

Sims 1 & 2 are the best, the modern games have no effort put into them. They are completely impersonal.

Sims 1 is my all time favorite. Never played much of Sims 2. Although, I do really dig Sims 3 (the open world is a lot of fun), never had much desire to play Sims 4.
