Do love tubs and heart beds not work on residential lots?

If not, what lot categories do they work on?
I recently bought a love tub and heart bed for my home, but I can't interact with them. I'm also just a roommate.
 
If it says it cannot be used on that lot category, it is not a bug, it is the game religiously following the flags set by maxis themselves.

This is also the Volcanic section. Either way, you can see these flags set in Volcanic if you look at the object.
