Will launchers continue to work when City Server is released?

Because I Haven't found any options to change resolution or language Ingame, so It Would be nice to have this launcher.
 
Launchers will probably have to be changed heavily. They are no longer needed to update the game, and you can change the resolution using launch parameters anyways.
 
What is your plan if nearing the 6th thousand of people suddenly start requesting the same set of files from EA servers, do you think they will not notice, and what is the plan if they delete such files. The main thing that bothered me about the official installer is it deletes the install files ( I know space right, but it should have asked) if it has problems I had to restart it from the beginning, couple that with a lot of excited people it will stress their server enough that they'll notice something is up. Are they even aware of this project? Cause their legal team (not usually the main company) is known to be aggressive and unsympathetic.
 
We can't predict what they will do, but it will always be possible to find TSO from somewhere. We have one backup plan, and if that goes down then it will really be up to users to find those files themselves. It would be nice to get EA's blessing for redistribution, but you don't get this kind of thing often as usually companies' ways of blessing projects like this are "the silent treatment" and letting them live on their own.

I don't think EA is willing to risk another PR disaster over a dead game... We might get lucky this time. They might not actually notice the load on their old server, since it is very old and probably hidden somewhere in the back of a room.
 
The main company (sometime ignored at least initially by their vindictive legal team) won't risk alienating this many loyal fans unless it looks like they are missing out on $$$$ probably, so depends on how successful this gets, double edged sword i suppose success will be.
 
Update 1.5.5 (5 Jan)
Launcher has been updated to support the global server client if it's installed (C:/Program Files/Maxis/FreeSO) (no need to reinstall the launcher).
All game update functions will be disabled temporarily (the game has a patcher already built in, so no need for it for now).

You need to install the game using the global server client installer at http://play.freeso.net

What's the difference between the Installer 1-5-17a and 1-5-17b? Do those of us who installed with "A" need to install with "B" now?
 
All I did was run the new installer on top of whatever else I had installed for the playtest. Hopefully it works. :rolleyes:
 
Why the installer ask for Visual Studio 2010, im not sure what is wrong with the utility...

PD: Seems is missing Transitions dll version 1.2.0??

Hi,
Don't run FreeSO through the launcher anymore until an update has been released.
You can run it directly from the FreeSO.exe executable in the game's folder.
