I never did get the extreme penalty for not having roommates. I realize that you want to promote lot owners to take on roommates, but there are a few factors that really ought to be considered. First with active roommates you get the extra time the lot is online and you are being rewarded in the end for having roommates. Then you pay out a considerable amount for lot expansion if you don't have the required number of roommates, and that can be substantial. And to top it all off the max object limit for that lot with one person is 300. While I don't think the penalties for having no roomies or even just a few roomies should disappear completely, maybe the object limits can be lightened. Maybe owners could get a max of 1000 objects for themselves and 200 for each roommate, that way if you want full object value you can still take on roomies but you don't feel pressured to take on any warm body you can find just to be able to decorate a nice lot.
Another proposal might be harder to implement, but would take the strain off object limits. What if lot owners still only had 300 objects but building and plants were taken out of the total possible for the lot with 8 roomies and not out of the ready object limit for how many are rooming on the lot. So say you have a full size lot and 2 people plus owner living there you would get 900 objects but if you build with 500 plants/doors/windows/etc that would be taken out of the 1500 object limit the owner doesn't have access to.
To be honest I am feeling pressured to take pretty much anyone and everyone I can, not for the quality of them but because half my lot is empty. I would rather wait and find the Right people to room with.
