The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection

EA are ceasing support of The Sims 2, but to make up for it they are giving anyone who owns any version of The Sims 2 a new "complete collection" style offering called The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection for free.

I had to contact EA Support to get it on my origin account, since all my TS2 games were retail copies - not digital - so I had to send them pictures of the games etc to verify that I definitely owned them.

As far as I know this is also the only version of The Sims 2 that works correctly on Windows 8.1, so it's really worth looking into if you enjoyed playing TS2, don't have all expansions and stuff packs or don't want to bring out all your TS2 disks to reinstall in future. It's working fine for me on Windows 8.1, but there are a few graphical issues that are probably caused by my 870M being too new...

If you have any digital copies of TS2, it should be in your account already. Just thought you guys might like to know about this. ;)

Edit by Afr0: They are giving TS2 for free to anyone. Just pop the code I-LOVE-THE-SIMS into origin. Would it be too much to ask them to release the source as well?

Looks like the shadows issue is caused by using recent NVIDIA graphics drivers. The only solution is apparently to set shadows to medium, which disables indoor sim shadows...

Yeah, that's annoying. I think it's also like that on AMD/ATI GPUs. The only solution is to lower settings or rollback to a previous driver, unfortunately.

Yeah I got it a few days ago. Never installed it, is just the base game or is it like double deluxe where it comes with base, nightlife, celebration stuff? But I found it weird how The Sims 2 Base Game install files is 5GB but this "Ultimate Collection" is 12.5GB? I haven't even installed it yet but, I was just wondering if anybody knows about that?

It comes with all expansions and stuff packs.

I had a look at the folder structures, the game is Double Deluxe with all expansions installed, with pets, family fun stuff and Mansion and Garden stuff installed last as the "Fun with Pets" multi pack. The game uses the Mansion and Garden stuff executable, and the loading screen does not have any special graphics (displays as Fun with Pets) though this might change when/if they start selling the ultimate collection to the general public.

damn I really wanted this..
I was so far in and they asked for a picture and I got mad since I lost my manual. All I have was a code off the internet written down on a slip of paper inside my retail box.
I got all the expansions and stuff packs w/ manuals except for the base game. fml.

going to ask to get an expansion pack registered on another chat and hopefully I can get the collection.

I was missing my TS2 manual to start but mentioned my expansions. They asked for pictures of the expansions too (instead of the base game manual) and gave me it once I provided them. I did find my manual by the end of the help session but they had already added the game to my account anyways.

asked for my Sims 2 Open for Business game to be registered on origin and...
Amitesh gave me this.

Do I wait now for all the other sims 2 titles to pop in?
Or do I have to get the base game on origin ;-;

I believe it needs to be base, for retail copies you might have to ask specifically for the ultimate edition upgrade...

They say the automatic process will occur on the 20-something-th, so it might still become the ultimate edition though I can't say for sure...

Lel, I said I had the game and no manual and I was asked to provide serial keys to expansions so I told them my freetime and university one (apparently the university one didn't work o_O).
In the end I got it and a 15% off discount in the origin shop so that was pretty neat.
Pretty happy about this since if I ever need to reinstall I don't have to put in every disc + my nightlife disk doesn't work so I have to torrent it :s

What I found weird with my Origin is that the only game I had was The Sims 2 Store edition which funny since its pretty much a "Base Game" and I got mine free. Weird how EA hates but does good things for once.. haha xD

The Sims 2 Store Edition is an old remnant of EA's pre origin "EA Download Manager", which started coming into existence nearing the end of The Sims 2's lifetime.

Never thought I'd have a legit version of the Sims 2 with all EPs and SPs without the need of torrenting. On top of that, I maxed settings with smooth edges, and the results are not too far off from E3 2k3. Huh, well, another thing I take back from my criticisms of TS2.

Okay, this is interesting. Note: this is focusing on the environment graphics.

From left to right: TS2 alpha, TS2 final with max settings, and The Sims 4.

Textures in a decade old game are better than one coming out in a months time. Lol.

The code to get TS2 for free is only available until the 31st of July BTW.

The best part about this is no more worrying about compatibility with mods, ect. It's like how it was before Sims: Complete Collection came out. Now, I will give EA kudos for streamlining their version control for Sims 3; instead of worring about expansion you have installed, you have to worry about the base game version.
