Trouble completing installation from the launcher

I have been having trouble completing the installation from the launcher for the longest time. I've lost count of how many times I've deleted the launcher and redownloaded it to try again and have it fail once again. Everytime I try to complete the installation, I either get the error message that I'm not connected to the internet (even though I am and my internet is working just fine) or "end of central directory not found". Is there a specific folder I'm supposed to select to download the files to? I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, can someone please help me? I'm getting frustrated, and I feel like giving up.

Hello!

Can you please state your launcher version? You can see it in the About section of the launcher.
If you are on a version that is not 1.7.3, you should update to it since there were recent issues with the installer.

About the 'not connected to the internet' thing: the launcher, in order to check if you have an internet connection, pings google.com. Do you recall having any network issues while opening google.com in your browser?

Another cause could be an antivirus. Antiviruses other than Windows Defender tend to distrust unsigned applications running on your computer, and so they may block some features. I'd ask you to please deactivate your antivirus while you are using the launcher, at least during the installation process. Then, you should whitelist the FreeSO Launcher in your antivirus settings.

Let me know when you've checked this out, we'll get you into the game one way or another!

Thank you for replying to me! I checked the about section, and the launcher is version 1.7.3. I use McAfee, so I'll try disabling it. I don't recall having any trouble using google.

EDIT: Apparently McAfee has been known to block internet connections and file downloads of applications (from what I could gather from reading their help page and a few articles), and that you can supposedly fix the problem by whitelisting the flie/app. I whitelisted the launcher, and it's allowed me to get to 16%, which is the farthest I've ever gotten. It also seems to be going a lot faster now!

Glad it's working! Let me know if you have any issues and if it finishes correctly.

I left it for a while to go to bed. I came downstairs to check on it, and it had stopped downloading, and I got the "end of central directory not found" error again. I keep seeing other sites say that the error usually means the file is corrupted; but I've re-installed the launcher earlier today, so I don't think that could be the case.

Yes, your The Sims Online download is getting corrupted somehow.
An alternative would be to download it directly from a browser and see if it hopefully doesn't get corrupted:
https://archive.org/download/TheSimsOnline_201802/TSO.zip
Once downloaded, you will need to extract it somewhere and run Setup.exe. When the installation is finished, close the setup and continue using the launcher to install FreeSO which is available in the Installer section.
After that, you should be able to play.

Thank you! Since it's a zip file, I should be able to just use the windows explorer to unzip it.
Will the download include the 3D remesh/all of the other things that you can download from the installer page of the launcher , or will it only include the base game? I'm asking because I'm afraid that if it doesn't include everything else and I go to download other things from the launcher, the other downloads will end up corrupted too. I'm not sure if I'm coming off as rude, so I'm sorry if it seems like I'm being demanding/pushy! That's not my intention at all.

You can download the 3D remeshes after installing FreeSO. You just need to click on it in the Installer tab. Also the launcher cannot corrupt anything you already have installed.
Remember, after installing TSO you need to install FreeSO from the launcher. If you restart the launcher (by clicking the tray icon and Exit) after manually installing TSO, it will pick up your TSO installation automatically, so then all you need to do is click on FreeSO in the installer tab, and when it's done, the Remesh Package.
