Sims can't go to bed when an end table is placed next to the bed. This was tried with the Pacific Peacetime Bed and the Imperious Island End Table.

I was there during that shift (Stewen Grybb) and I can confirm that she was slacking. Stood still in the bathroom for 3 or 4 shifts, then she started moving. Don't know if she took any orders during the last shift, though, but it was towards the end that she moved around.
