AquaFox, my upcoming PD-based server

Although, PD hasn't tied the networking and gameplay together yet, I figured since it'd be a good idea to get things prepared considering the progress made in the last couple months. AquaFox, name is reference to my character who is a land and sea fox, is the server that'll be hosting New Sims Online, my own private server using PD for the server and client. Should add some nice competition. Right now it's pretty basic but I hope to add more the closer gameplay and networking begin to merge. On the other hand, the New Sims 2 project has been dropped entirely.

However, you can't use the address to login or sign up from PD, at the moment. It will not work.
This will change in the future!

I still don't think we should be thinking about private servers just yet... What if only like 20 people are interested in playing once we're live? Like I've said, it's better to have a medium sized tight-knit community in one city than to have a small one for many cities...

Yes i support rhys idea, what you need aidancheddar is wait more time to have this idea, you can focus now im trying to share the project for more people using social network, and after some estable version is released, you can do this...

Well, I'm not launch at it's current state. I'm just setting things up for when it is stable. I already said you can't login or sign up, at the moment.

Anyway, speaking of one-city, I'm guessing that means PD supports one account with multiple Sims living in the same city? Kinda like how EA-Land was. Cause mine will also be small, niche community, and I'd prefer to only have one city. If that's the case, then may be a good thing by keeping thing fresh among the community at a whole, the flagship, e.g. Project Dollhouse server, would be have Queen Margaret's, for example, while mine would be Blazing Falls. It'd be much like the original because each city was like it's own separate private server with a different community.

Yeah, I don't see the purpose of having a private server to be honest. If you do set one up, you'll only have maybe 2 or 3 people interested in joining - and that'll be pretty quiet.

Considering how much demand there is to bring TSO back to the point of rebuilding it from scratch, I highly doubt that. Also, PD is a private server too; any non-official MMO server is considered this.

Project Dollhouse: The unofficial-official server for The Sims Online. Lol. :D

I can see private servers working well if you just want to play on your own (?) or with your own select group of friends. Other than that a "public" server would be more fun IMO.

Well there are 282 registered members on this site, and I imagine half (maybe less) are still active. I'd personally rather play the actual project doll house "private server". I honestly don't see the point in there being more than one at this stage, there simply won't be enough people interested in joining.

TSO-R had 5000 members, so there's potential for an influx, but for all we know half of them were spambots.

Just because it's not hosted by Afr0, doesn't make mine any less "actual". If Fatbag's project, nioTSO, contined, we would have another private server, anyway, but using a different client, server, and protocol. Same for all the other TSO restore projects. Sticking with just one server will get boring, in the long run, since we don't have the resources or the ability to go commercial in order bring more users. There needs to be other servers to keep things fresh, and bring variety to the table to balance things out.

I have to ask, is not niotso that makes project dollhouse possible??? i mean pd is based on niotso did not???, also all other projects are not really real only ideas, like mine sims ville roleplay that is mostly cooperative for sims 1....

Actually, NioTSO and PD are too separate projects, let alone code bases. However, the two do share and interchange their knowledge.

>If Fatbag's project, nioTSO...

Well TSO-SE and the tools are the only things I make these days.

But what if XTSO... released... a playable... vers-pfffffffd no

Joking aside, Project Dollhouse is a complete reimplementation of the game, so technically there can be a "main" server. We are not running a The Sims Online private server as we aren't exactly running a The Sims Online server, it's a Project Dollhouse server.

xD You Are completely right ^^ PD Is Not A Private Server its The Unoriginal-Original Server because the Official Sims 1 Online Server has been shut down in 1.August 2008 And it wouldn't exist anymore but now it will be coming back ^^

Okay, okay. XD It's a mix between the two. Ether way, variety, competition, ect, and I just want to run my own TSO server.

No one can stop you from doing that.
But I've already made clear that you (or anyone else) won't get any support from me in configuring the server, database, compiling or anything else if I deem that competition would be unhealthy (I.E there are too few players).
