[ARCHIVE] Lot pricing strategy

I hope you don't stray too far from the original TSO .... it's what made it so much fun. Don't get too much real life into the game. If I can't pay a bill and get my electricity turned off ... uugghh ... not so much fun anymore. :p

The only biggest issue with TSO was it strayed away from its vision. It became Second Life with motives.

Yes, The Sims is a simulation game at its heart. Or rather, should be... Becoming and staying rich should be a challenge for the dedicated, but you can still have fun if you're worse off via other people's lots or even your own more modest one. Custom content should make it easier to have fun as well. :)

I went looking for some screenshots of the original game. Found a few that show lot prices. I don't think we are a million miles away. Perhaps islands slightly more expensive, single waterfront slightly less expensive. Maybe altitude adjustment is a bit low or snow had a greater base price.

Some of the modifiers may be multipliers... I'll take a look in an hour or so.

I was hoping there would be some hints in the tuning data but I could not see anything.

Could just make the lot prices free and adjust the monthly bills that are supposed to come in the mail to match the kind of land the player owns, I see some people have already replaced the shovel tool with the extra items like the infinite trash can/mail box etc.

Totally agree! A rent option would be great for newcomers with a little income.

If there's anything truly amazing this whole emulator has proven, it's the wide variety of unused content Maxis never finished adding into the game left over from Sims 1, like that shovel tool, and non-existent bills in mailbox we can still make use of. Who knows, maybe even one day import custom all kinds of objects and even be able to have npc children? ;)

It's theoretically possible to become a child in the current version using a simple code change, as far as I know

The child skeleton and all meshes+textures have been removed from the game. Child interactions are still kind of present, like the stool on the sink.

i do like the extra pricing but how about pricing option in server config b4 launching game you can change how much each chunk of land costs IE sand lot 5000 ocean lot 10,000 as a defult prices... that way smaller servers can do free ones if they want to ... or dedicated server can change price to 1million for a island lot

There aren't any dedicated servers planned if I'm correct, nor should you be able to. This isn't that game with that kind of server hosting. One Big Server,Login Server,City Server, etc (Possibly murged to one or stay in seperate servers in the end i suppose)

And EVERYONE'S on it.

Uh what?
There are, obviously, going to be dedicated servers - this game is not designed to be P2P. There will, of course, be custom servers as is expected by an MMO, but less of them. The game is required to have its source posted meaning that it's not difficult to create your own server, or even a custom one - source code is available on GitHub.

nicefunfungirl is right. LRB, this game is not meant to be played alone. If we get the original server off the ground, this might be a huge success. I mean, knowing how non-mainstream it is, building a community on top of it might be hard.

I never said you had to play alone?

It's not "required" to be open source since we don't use any infective copyleft licensed code. It would be possible to relicence all code in the repository with the permission of the contributors, and if they disagreed their work could be removed from the repository and replaced. MPL also allows closed source derivative works. Not that this will ever happen, just saying that we aren't really obligated to make all the code available.

Private servers will just confuse people who want to play the game, and divide the community. Until there is an established userbase I'd like to encourage people to only host servers for testing and development purposes, or if they're doing an in depth mod of the entire game.

Could an in depth mod be hardcore mode with extra objects, different lot sizes, more difficulty etc?
