You're doing great work at a very fast progress RHY. I love all the little detail features your adding. it's gonna make the experience so much better. Also loving the videos.

Wha, have you even heard of the sims online before? Read its wiki page or look up gameplay videos or something

It will also be possible to join people in job lots manually, as they are given a temporary presence on the city server.

Great progress.

Why not make it visible all the time? Even if people enter the lot in TSO there often times where too many people were on a job lot, but only a certain amount could enter anyway. Also it would be great for creating certain neighborhoods.

That's not a scalable solution (we might need 5 grade 1 lots at one point), and it would let people put really stupid lots next to the job lots to mess with their surroundings. I'm not sure if that could work correctly.

Rude, anyway I asked this because I dont know how exactly gameplay is. I dont played original game before and I dont know how it works, I am really happy to see this project is happening and I am curious about it. Thats all.

It was just a reallllly odd question. Every single Sims game is known for the fact the player can own their own lot. It's not such a big thing in TSO since the lots that really matter are the ones where everyone used to go to skill or do pizza jobs or whatever.

It's not just about the original game, though. Every Sims game up to the Sims 4 which was released recently have people owning their own lots. That's been a series staple for going on 17 years.

Actually tons of people had the same question when TSO was in beta. When you remove the game from it's natural habitat ANYthing could change. So having played the Sims isn't necessarily enough of a background for this.

This thread's focus, however, is FreeSO's progression, rather than describing TSO.
Awerlu's suggestion is a good one. You'll find a lot of info a little internet searching. http://www.tsomania.net/ is a nice spot to bookmark for that - a lot of other places are very enthusiastic, but can be a bit fragmented. All will tend to focus on changes rather than describe the basic game, assuming everyone is familiar enough with it. Videos, as Awerlu suggested, will probably be a much better first step.

And you can try posting in the General Discussions forum below, explaining you are entirely new to TSO and asking about it. People love reminiscing about TSO and would probably be quite happy to answer questions.

Wow ... I am impressed how you handle 2 different sims and work the robot factory, I got to the point where I could do certain levels alone ... just have to get the rhythm down haha ... and I always played with background music off so I completely forgot there was music with the factory job! Great work!!:D

In this video I show the online jobs matchmaker working on the global server. I also manage to confuse myself by playing two robot factories at the same time...

Job experience, status etc are all carried into the database correctly. I've disabled consuming the parts in this video because I was low motives, but that works too. The correct job lot is chosen based on the type and grade of the sim asking the server to match them into a job lot.

It will also be possible to join people in job lots manually, as they are given a temporary presence on the city server.

Really incredible progress from latest time i have been in forums, and really good youre planning to extand the online jobs, is real important feature..

That's not a scalable solution (we might need 5 grade 1 lots at one point), and it would let people put really stupid lots next to the job lots to mess with their surroundings. I'm not sure if that could work correctly.

Sure that could happen, but if you'd be a bit more optimistic people could build some really great places around the work places too, so it could also be a very great thing. :)

The advantage is you can make challenges to create different lvl lots, to spice it up a little and not have like 5 lvl 1 lots looking all the same.

The other options would be:

"Link lots": So only put 1 robot factory on the map. If you're level 1, you'll see level 1, if you're level 2 you only see level two. But still put 5 places there, so people can (if they want to) choose where they want to go.

Putting job lots on the map would make it possible for working people to meet and choose a place before worktime.

One more question: Are you planing to let all 3 sims be online at the same time in the same city? That could lead very fast to cheating, like in TSO back than where people logged in with different accounts at the same time. etc.

I'll think about it, but there are still severe issues. This could likely be implemented after a server is deployed, as it will need to use the instancing anyways to do the "only shows your job lot" effect. Instancing may also become complex since some requests would ask TO CREATE the job lot in the specific location, whereas other people would be doing the normal way of asking the matchmaker to choose ANY job lot that is readily available. This could cause an issue where someone joins a random job lot, only to discover that someone opened another job lot in a specific location that gets 3 players, whereas they're stuck by themselves because they're not on the location specific lot.

Users who multi-account for profit will be permanently banned. This will be detected and flagged by automatic IP, trade and transaction analysis and the hammer will be put down by mods. The game will be rebalanced to better suit single-account users, and multiple lot ownership + roomies will come in a future update.

You start with nothing and everything ingame takes quite while to earn... so you will have everything to lose when you break the rules. All accounts that clearly benefit from another users' exploits will either be banned or the benefits will be removed.

Same as last video, but restaurant is working now. Please mute if you're not a fan of 2x music at the same time.

Looks like person-person collision is this job's biggest enemy. Here's a few changes to routing that need to be implemented:

- Target spots with same position as other sims, or same target spot as another sim's route are immediately lowest priority. (can pick up from table in like 6 different spots. Don't need to move someone out of the way every time)
- Fix getting stuck halfway in doors. Needs smarter room obstacles.
- Fix whatever the hell happened with the busgirl at 8:20 (looks like it chose a completely invalid route after failing to get through the door... not sure what the idea was)

Here's a pretty cute dialog for changing lot category. I also need to make sure the special cases for these all work correctly.

I'll probably post another thread about everything else that needs to be completed for the server to be launchable, since the first post of this thread is pretty useless now.

I'm so excited to work at the restaurant again, that was my fav part of TSO! A few nights ago I decided to play around with it in the latest build just for kicks, and it looked something like this:

And I thought it was still pretty entertaining in its current state. :p Can't wait to try out the working version. Great job as usual RHY, and thanks!

If work lots are going to be visible in the map, even if temporary, where would they go? Would there be a little work district or something?
wait i think work lots are made by people... they're not just owned by the server. idek lol

Anyway, are different plots of land going to have different prices? Like a beach is more expensive?

Work lots are pre-built maps and owned by the server.
"Money Lots" are made by people and feature group money-making objects (4 person pizza oven, 3 person business core, 2 person map table). I am not sure if TSO ended up restricting the single person objects (canning station, gnome bench, etc) to Money Lots as well.
