Global chat feature?

I was thinking about having a global chat feature that would be accessible from anywhere (even Far View) in the game; it could be with the messaging UI but it's own separate button (i.e. a globe). I might work on a concept later but for now it's all talk.

Global chat would have been unusable on the original TSO, but we'll probably have a much smaller community... Maybe a good medium is a group system, where you can create and join chat groups, and the game lists some popular ones to get you started. Obviously, this would be done well after gameplay is functional...

There should be a maximum for each group too with a password protection for those that just want a private chat with a few friends.

Of course, unless somebody else wanted to grab the job, but who knows what could happen to it with all the code changes that could happen?

BloodFighter: When I have time to debug. Because that's mainly what's left at this point. I've been struggling with depression and actually have had some work to do, so there's been little time.

I don't know how to respond to "hope you get well soon". Unless I manage to treat the underlying cause, I will never be "cured".
Many years of trying and failing have allowed me to get "better" at not being nervous around people, but in my case I know that the social anxiety stems from Aspergers.
It is a rare neurological disorder that makes me unable to pick up on certain social cues, and has led to years and years of social paranoia, anxiety and ultimately depression. So unfortunately the only way for me to completely get "rid of" the symptoms would be to announce to everyone I meet that I have it, but that would cause them to not treat me as a normal person, so instead I've opted to suffer (mostly) in silence.
