This. This for days.-snip-
I've been a lurker on the official Sims forums for years and years. Even though the majority of players there are vehemently against making their offline game constantly online, there are SO many newer players asking for online features. People are constantly thrashing TSO on those forums and say things like "it failed", without really having any understanding of why it was truly shut down. My personal favorite: "My Sims are MY Sims- I don't want to share my game. I'm in control."
Well, I've never asked for the offline version of Sims to die, I just wanted another online option back. TSO came in a time when MMO's were very new. As time marched on, the graphics were extremely outdated compared to a lot of the new stuff coming out. EA was already working on The Sims 2, and I think it became very obvious to EA that TSO had a lot of limitations when seeing the new functionality that Sims 2 brought. I remember everyone in TSO saying "Maxis/EA never makes updates, they are giving up on TSO," and I remember thinking "well, WoW is knocking every other MMO out of the park." WoW was 3D, and action-packed. TSO was a glorified chat room. But, I loved that about it. There are SO many great things that could be done with the look and options in the newer Sims games with proper online functionality. But, let's face it, it won't happen. I'm perfectly happy with the thought of FreeSo bringing back the unique experience of TSO.
Bringing TSO objects into my TS1 game will do nothing but make me feel severe nostalgia with no hope of reliving my TSO glory days... I know this, because I've already downloaded several TSO CC objects into my game. Spoiler-alert: It's not the same.
