Yeah, we aren't playing games which require a quick reaction to something on-screen (think GMod, COD, CSGO).Well duh, what else would we do? There won't be region specific servers since the game doesnt exactly need to be low latency.
Hell yes we will... Since like 60% of all users on the forum are dormant, they'll arrive, and when people find us on social networking sites we'll have a 400+ player community in about a year and 6 months.Just wait ... once this game is live you will see lots more players ...
And with some connections probably even more ... I know few people who probably could get the word around :3Hell yes we will... I really hope that'll be the case. Though I don't doubt you, especially people who want to play the Sims Online again but just don't know about FreeSO yet.Hell yes we will... There most likely will be more, because the prediction I made was conservative and did not count the number of people that could be reached through real life groups or word by mouth. We might get a 400-person player base within, like, a year if we're lucky enough. It's all down to how the community shares it and spreads the word.I really hope that'll be the case. EA don't give a shit about their large file downloads server and I doubt they even remember it existed. It hasn't been updated since, what, 2010? There are betas for old games (crysis, etc) on there still as well as multiple demos. I doubt they'd even care people were playing an open source TSO - and if they do take it down I will re-upload the files to MEGA along with a handy installer script, in RAR format to allow for quick download/uploading. You can redistribute the TSO files in legally (AFAIK its abandonware), but it's best not to for now.Isn't it a bit optimistic? People are lazy, setting up FreeSO takes some time. There is a chance that once we go live, EA would remove TSO download from their website (I still don't understand why they left it there, it's way too obsolete and they already removed almost everything else). The community will be built around people who somehow find this site (nostalgia? curiosity?) and will be tech-savvy enough to get the thing running on their PCs. I'm sure that by then, someone will soften all the rough edges in deployment department but you still need to download and install original game yourself as we can't redistribute the files. Which might get harder if the download is removed of course.
I think 100 is more possible to achieve, assuming that we have at least that many active members on the forums. Of course, it's probably quite enough to get the party started anyway. 400 would be great, I kinda don't see it though, not yet.
We could soften some edges by giving a link to OpenTK and the latest game dist. in a "Info Page" that has all links to files along with instructions on how to use them. This info page could be in the development blog if it needs to be. Since the blog is known as Freeso.org, the URL could make it look like a main page to many people. The only issue would be getting the word out the FreeSO is TSO. But some people around these forums said they might have means of doing so.EA don't give a shit about their large file downloads server and I doubt they even remember it existed. Have you seen most gaming communities? When a game comes out all the dormant users suddenly reappear and play the game they've been waiting for, like 80% of the time.
I think a while back, someone at EA might have known about FreeSO (Maybe even Project Dollhouse back when Rhys was working on that.) A wide scale file rename happened and words like "Sim" got changed to "Avatar". But I could be wrong.I'd honestly have to know if there any legal problems that could arise (could EA shut this project down for example?)

It probably was, though there also was a file name and code change with this project.Wasn't that EA-Land thing?
Listen, guys. EA only give a shit about money, right? Well, they aren't going to make any money off of TSO anymore, are they? Nope. Are we? Nope. There should be minimal damage to the Sims franchise too, meaning that EA can only lose if they send C+D letters and take down download mirrors. Nobody's taken down betaarchive, have they?
I wouldn't get too comfortable, this is EA games, if they'll notice that there's actual interest in the online version I'm sure they're going to get on it especially given that Sims 4 was meant to be online.
Yeah Sims 4 was gunna have multiplayer but the ditched that engine despite a petition and everything, a-holes at EA strike again! >..<Woah, didn't know about that. o3o
Did some research and found this.
Welp. Guess they're afraid to go back to TSO?
