Maybe it's a good idea to add a serverlist to Project Dollhouse. In this serverlist, peaple are able to add their own servers.

I dont think this is necessary, only one person has mentioned about a server and besides, there is gonna be an official PD server.

Also, we're far away from getting a server that works to play with. The Tech Preview is coming out in August, the working server stuff will probably not come out until the end of 2014 or beginning of 2015.
 
You will have to mod the client to connect to a server.
Sometimes, a server 'website' will have the client pre-modded ready for you to install.
This means there will be seperate installations of Project Dollhouse for each server.
Also, that means the server can have 'extra' stuffs and the client will work.

This information was from Fatbag - developer of NIOTSO, and I imagine it will be the same for Project Dollhouse.

You could do that, but that's retarded. Basically, it comes down to editing the settings for the Project Dollhouse client so it can connect to a custom IP+Port combination. The settings will most likely come in a separate file, and some settings will also be available as commandline options.
Haven't really added any of this stuff yet, and I'm not sure if it will be added before the release of the first milestone, because there's not much point (the client will only support creating your own character anyway).

If you read what Fatbag wrote and interpreted it as meaning "multiple installations" of anything, I assure you the interpretation was incorrect. You won't need to install Project Dollhouse or NIOTSO more than once.

Ah.
I'm gonna go off and make an unofficial IP changer so people can connect to servers easily.
 
I'd be happy to make a server (or two) once the game is out. I'm getting a new PC in a few days so I'll have two relatively-good laptops I could use as servers, and I could try running one 24-7 too. I'd love to help out and make one!
 
I'm making a server too, but it will be experimental and will only be PUBLIC on weekdays (weekends will be whitelist days)
 
And what about making a server responsible for server list? Make possible for users to register themselves to such "server list service" and add an option to PD server app to interface with it using REST API for updating the status. Also Cron job for checking status would be nice (ping and stuff), to check if server is not down for non-maintenance reasons.

Client would then cache server list, if service would be down, it'll just use last cached version of it. Also option for adding custom items to list from client itself (feature which xezno approves I guess) would be nice. Not only for connecting with private, "elite" servers, but also when service is just down, and there's no cached version available for client to use.

But I think it's still too early to think about it.
