Please excuse my lack of understanding bout Beta games.
I have been reading a lot of chats about the impending Server wipes lately and most speculate that it may happen some time in May? Does it mean that all will be reset back to ZERO? o_O

Why would it happen in may, where do people keep getting this from.

It will happen, most likely sometime this summer.. And yes, the wipe means EVERYONE will be reset to 0 aka NOTHING! :)

May came from you (Rhys) it'll be at least 3 months before there is any wipe.
People heard "it'll be ... THREE MONTHS!" when you meant "it'll be AT LEAST... (so stop worrying about it)"

The word May got posted in one post or blog somewhere (replacing the phrase "3 months") and it took off from there.

people like to believe anything. they love pulling "facts" out of their asses and spreading rumors.

the way the beta started up worked out pretty well. those who were awaiting the beta to start were able to use the money we got to start properties. would be interesting to try that same approach, or perhaps give special allowance to a couple dozen sims to start up properties and give roommates more incentive to stay and contribute.

Are there any rough dates yet regarding the wipe as I'm sure there are those myself included wondering if there is much point trying to get far within the beta if we are just starting out?

We're going to wipe server only once the final version will be released and as there is no any deadline about it we can't tell when exactly that going to happen for now so you can skip and forget all speculation you heard about it as they are all wrong.

Yep, newspapers and computers will be available for getting jobs right away.
But there will also be money making objects on the public lots that Aquila referred to.
Even without many/any skill points teams can make a few thousand in a round of Code Breaker. When my lot was a money lot I would arrange such sessions for people who were just starting and found that with a team total of 30 points or so it really was not very difficult to make 5K. (2K if we messed about chatting and laughing instead of 'working' which we were prone to do at times.). I still have not had the chance to find out how much each solved code is when all sims have 0 points. I admit I am pretty curious about that.
Pizza might generate a less, I dunno. It has this whole Herding Cats aspect to it that I tend to avoid LOL
