Hi everyone,
I created this thread even more to tell you, Devs and players, that there's still lots of people reading the Developpement news, forum posts, Youtube videos, etc. keeping their hopes up on that great game you are rebuilding. I dowloaded PD files and what you've done is awesome. The "Create a Sim" section is really well done and give hopes, rightly.
Ok, I make a quick presentation of me since the forum doesn't look very active. I'm 22 yo, I live in Switzerland, my native language is french.
My experience with The Sims... Mh... I played the Sims 1, The Sims 2, I didnt purchase The Sims 3 (since i was expecting an online multiplayer) - And Finally I am interested in The Sims 4 if they add a multiplayer online gameplay (Do you think it will?). The Sims 1 are still perfect for me. I can't explain it but... The Sims culture is really living forever in it. and Afterall it's really fun and fully nostalgic.

Thx for reading :)

Hey Nemmeron, welcome to the community! I don't think EA are willing to risk another "Sims Online" just yet, as most game companies these days seem to be scared of taking risks... The social aspect of TS4 will probably just be sharing stories to facebook or whatever, like they've added to TS3 but most likely more fleshed out.

Right now I'm sitting exams, so development on the SimAntics + World part of the game has halted completely. I'm afraid it'll stay this way until the 22nd! :(

Welcome Nemmeron!
To answer your question... As for Sims 4 EA clearly said that it won't be a multiplayer game, but maybe we will have luck and EA eventually starts remaking Sims Online in a few years, who knows?! :)
If they don't make the same mistakes as with the original TSO, it could be successful this time (even in EAs eyes!)

Thanks for creating this thread! I was reading in another thread how there may be a "lack of interest" in the game, but I think that is completely unfounded. I played the game from January 2003 until it closed, and I have am still friends with many people who played the game on Facebook. I think there is tremendous interest in bringing back some rendition of the game, particularly in a way that would allow friends to reconnect. Most people are still in touch with people they met in-game, and word of mouth would quickly spread about PD. I have been lurking, and I suspect many others have as well, as it is difficult to get invested in a project which may very well never come to fruition. There was recently a Facebook group formed reuniting former TSO players which gained hundreds of people in a matter of days. Many of us who posted on Stratics still talk!

Hey! Welcome ^_^

The forum is usually more active than this, but since quite a few people here are at school/university it's become less active because of exams coming up. Plus we lost someone that (while very active) was pretty annoying.

I don't think EA will look back at TSO to be honest, it wasn't massively successful when it was up and for big game companies it's all about the money. New (offline) Sims games (i.e Sims 4) with loads of buyable content online are more likely because they can rake in the cash that way.

Yep, there won't be any more progress on the world code until after the 21st, unless Afr0 has a sudden interest in SimAntics?

I'm working slowly on encryption, but I fear I'm going to have to try to force myself to let the work come to a complete halt as of monday, lest I want to fail exams. :\

Hundreds just doesn't cut it in EA's eyes.

I'm not really concerned about EA. I'd love it if another game like TSO came out, but anything worth playing wouldn't come from EA. My comment was concerning interest in PD, and that the social connections - what really drove TSO subscriptions - are still there, and ready to be rekindled.

Hundreds could easily grow into thousands. The Sims Online had a loyal following who held on for years with no updates and poor customer service.
