chalk was incredibly popular in TSO. jams actually wasnt that popular since chalk paid about $7200 per greening with 12 or so people, vs $10000-$15000 for pizza, $15000-25000 for code. jams is one of the worst paying objects in the game, but they were low barrier cooking skill based things for new sims to do. not so much anymore. it would be cool if potions used cooking+logic skills for higher payout, and typewriters used mech+creative skills, since they are skill duplicates. would be really fun. also it seems that the attraction of jams in freeso tells me that a lot of new players found it as a good place to start. i had to popularize chalk because many of the new players were low information and were just doing what everyone else did. its unfortunate arguably the most popular activity in the game was diminished so heavily. we lost so many people.
