[ARCHIVE] Final Checklist Discussion

Random question, but are people going to be able to make as many accounts as they want? And they play them simultaneously?

Multiaccounting for profit is a bannable offense. The game will be balanced around playing as a single player, and the legitimate uses for multiple sims (roleplaying etc) will be implemented later as a system which only enables money making for one of the sims on your account at a time, and potentially even connecting with multiple sims from the same game client. Getting around this system would require multiple accounts. Multiaccounting will likely lead to a reposession of objects, money, or a permanent ban.

Ownership and being roomie of multiple lots on one sim will be available sometime in the future, for those who have max upgraded their first lot. Likely, people will be able to own multiple lots by earning money on one of their sims at a time before this feature becomes available. Money earned from player->player transactions would not be limited by the multi-sim rule, only money from job objects and jobs, so you would still be able to run a store or a player business on a second sim, just not afk farm job objects, play pizza with yourself or have multiple sims in the job lots.

I hope it doesn't come to this, multiple accounts for money gaining will ruin the economy and destroy the game.

Registration and simple account management online (web app polling API server)
Wordpress is not best safe option, do you really need external web api for registration, when you can do this from TSO login screen??

You don't seem to understand what the page does, so I'm not going to bother answering that.

It's a placeholder for an actual account management system. The wordpress page is a static page, it simply allows the user to access the user management API made available by the game server, via an HTTPS XmlHttpRequest. This API is not intrinsically "unsafe" just because you can access it from a static page on the same domain, and because wordpress is the devil or whatever.

Yeah I was thinking last night that would really mess everything up... Hope there's a way to keep it under control.

There will be! The moderation control panel will detect suspicious patterns and flag them up. With permanent bans being dealt out for multiaccounting, you wouldn't want to risk losing everything you own.

In my honest opinion... The economy of The Sims Online isn't really that important as say World of Warcraft. The only things you spend your money on TSO are really furniture, building a house and maybe clothes? I mean yeah you can buy pets, you can hit up some Mystic Tree farms, but other than that... It's really just there to prevent people from building house after house etc. I remember when the economy of Alphaville got ruined and they did that money wipe. Nothing in game really changed, I mean sure people had 500m+ simoleans, but they really had nothing to buy :x

I played during the original Beta and a few years after that, I never played during EA-Land, and the economy was already out of control. Most of my time was spent finding a full house with a spotlight and skilling, but, even then I could feel how outrageous the economy was for some players. If new features are implemented the economy will be priority.

one day i was skilling somewhere and was randomly given 1m I didnt even ask, people just had too much at their disposal.

It'll be exciting to really see how the game works with a regulated economy. I know the game lost lots of its challenge when people were just giving away money from exploits! Has there been any discussion on how much money everyone would start with? Sims 1 was 20,000, no? I think TSO sims started with 5,000, or am I crazy?

Question for you Rhy since multi accounts is bannable what about the ability to play multiple sims on different IPS aka if my Girlfriend and I are in the same house on the same network can we play together or are we at risk of the system detecting multiple accounts due to the same network? So one computer runs one instance of the game but you have multiple computers running FreeSO. Also since this will be on iOS and Android if you play on those devices do you need a separate account per device or what will be in place for all those edge cases?

You can use devices from multiple IPs for the same account (your account will still work on iPhone/Android 4G), and you will be able to register multiple accounts from the same IP if you stagger the registrations over several days.

There are special interactions between users which will be flagged as "suspicious activity", eg. large one way object trade or transaction (monetary value for very little in return). When your account is flagged, it's up to a moderator to review your past transactions and trades, IP history and possibly user activity in general. If there is definite proof that you are multiaccounting, both accounts will be banned, billed or warned, depending on the severity of the actions. Legitimate play from the same IP will likely not trigger the flagging system, so long as your user activity doesn't reveal any other signs that both accounts are managed by one person or physical machine.

Playing with multiple sims on the same account simultaneously is not recommended until the account-wide single user money-making limits are put in place. You're playing with fire at that point.

Most users will start with 0 simoleons, since accounts are free. There will be a way for the very first founders to easily get started.

So we're all starting with 0 simoleans? I thought we would start with 10k like the original game?

Be at the opening ceremony, that's all I'll say. Online jobs will have boosted payout for a while til I can get a good # on the average earnings from each job type and tweak it from there.

I hope that eventually we'll be able to create an automated economy that can change the prices and payouts on its own. If a system like that works in the long run i think it will save a lot of headaches down the line.
